Steve Lawler documentary: The Art of The DJ
14.08.15
As lovers of underground dance music we are delighted to be working with DJ,
Steve Lawler on his forthcoming documentary film, The Art of The DJ.
If you don't know him, Steve is a British house music DJ and producer from Birmingham, England. A five time DJ Awards winner he's held residences at many popular dance clubs such as
The End in London,
Twilo in New York and because of his successful performances at
Space in Ibiza, he was nicknamed "King of Space".
This is a very frank and honest personal story from Steve where he opens up candidly about his professional and very personal journey from humble beginnings to where he is today. From the beaches of Ibiza, via the warehouses of England to the dance floors of nightclubs worldwide, charting the rise of not just dance music but the art form of the disc jockey itself.
His narrative interweaves with those who have helped him on the way – Darren Hughes founder of Cream, Home and We Love, Danny Whittle the man behind the last 13 years of Ibiza’s Pacha and James Todd the creative genius who launched the genre defining Global Underground series of mix compilations.
The film is directed and edited by
Piers Sanderson who directed acid house documentary,
High On Hope about the acid house scene in Blackburn and the North of England.
Expect to hear a superb selection of dance music classics charting Steve's musical history from the early 90's to modern day, from the likes of
The Grid,
Gat Decor,
Farley Jackmaster Funk, of course
Steve Lawler and more.
The film will be rolled out online and to other platforms in mid November.
